Blog 115 - Day 5 - Chinese for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner!

I'm so hungry, my legs have shrunk!
Today we set off really early.. camera working, phone working, I was on top of the world - I just couldn't wait to get going.

We had our breakfast which consisted of porridge, with very sweet jam, peanut butter or this powered stuff made from almonds. I liked it.  Plus yellow bread, fried in fat, that tasted a bit like eggy bread, I liked this too! Very yummy but I imagine a million calories a slice (especially if you slap on a ton of peanut butter), or if you hadn't had enough already..... Chinese!!! - Cabbage, sweet rice etc.,  Have you ever tried to eat porridge with chop sticks?

Jasmine tea washed it all down and then we washed ourselves with our little metal bowls and soap with warm water that they supplied for us... all very primitive in a spoilt kind of way!

This is James - our guide  & best friend

I love this picture, it is like a litte Andrew is coming out of her pocket!

This is the moment that I loved Andrew the most! One of those is PG Tips... for me!

How could life get any better?
Beach nearby may have helped!!!

We headed off today through cornfields and farm land for a true taste of rural China before exploring a classic section of the wall.  This section was named affectionately as "Dragon standing on the beautiful golden mountain".  One of the most amazing things about this trip was that we were privileged to be walking exclusively on parts of the wall that tourists never went.  It was like being on a chosen path!  We could count the amount of tourists we saw on the entire trip on one hand.

Every step I took I loved, we were more like mountain goats clambering up the rocks and up the steepest steps you can imagine.. apparently, the steps are so big because the Chinese believe that evil spirits don't have knees so they can't climb the big steps!  There were certainly no evil spirits there with us... we felt the calmness and sheer magnitude of every step under our feet.

Tea anyone?

Playing pool outside their shops - laughing and gobbing on the floor!

Ken - leading our way

I don't think Ken was too overjoyed at the pack lunch either!

How the hell am I going to get down from here?
